  • Significance: Arahat Mahinda introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka on a Poson poya day in the 3rd century BC. King Ashoka of India sent his son, Arahat Mahinda to Sri Lanka with the sacred message of Buddhism. This happened during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa.
